Selling a shared ownership property
Find out how to sell your share in a property

The percentage owned can be sold at any time allowing a new purchaser to take over the Lease on a shared ownership basis. You should instruct an independent Chartered Surveyor to assess the full market value of the property. Please telephone us if you need help finding a Chartered Surveyor.

You will need to write and let us know you wish to sell and we will send you the relevant paperwork. We will circulate the details on our resales list for either the East or the West of the Pennines and contact people on the waiting list. If we are unable to nominate a purchaser we will let you know as soon as possible and advise you to place the property with an Estate Agent of your choice. Once a sale has been agreed please let us know, as Guinness Northern Counties must approve the purchaser and give consent to the sale.

You must pay for the solicitor that is needed for the sale. The Estate Agents fees are also you responsibility. We will charge a fee for nominating or approving a buyer.

You can sell the property outright if nobody wants to buy your share. We will need to give approval for this. We will not give approval if you have not owned the property for 12 months. Please contact us for details of this procedure.
