Shared ownership flats
Find out about your responsibilities for a shared ownership flat

If the property is a flat you may be responsible for:

  • internal repairs

  • internal decoration

  • contents insurance

The Association may be required to:

  • keep the building in good structural repair

  • insure the building

  • maintain the exterior

  • decorate, clean and light communal areas (staircases, corridors etc).

You will pay a service charge for these costs. The Association must tell you how the service charge is spent and we will consult you before any major repair maintenance work is done.

Please note that all leases are different.  It is very important that you read your lease to understand the rights and responsibilities that you are signing up to.  You should ask your solicitor to guide you on this.
