Housing Association ‘first’ for Northern Counties

Northern Counties Housing Association is the first housing association in the country to be named an ‘Investors in People Champion’.

Northern Counties Housing Association is the first housing association in the country to be named an ‘Investors in People Champion’.

The announcement was made on Thursday 29th November 2007 at a presentation ceremony at London’s Kensington Roof Gardens.

Northern Counties joins an illustrious list of 35 other employers, including Nationwide Building Society, Thomson Directories and TNT UK, who have been recognised for maintaining an exemplary standard in the workplace since the ‘Champion’ status was introduced in 2004.

Being a Champion means that Northern Counties will work with Investors in People – the organisation that works with companies to improve performance – to share their expertise and best practice with other employers. This will include mentoring and site visits.

Northern Counties Chief Executive, Carol Matthews, said: “We are delighted to have become the first registered social landlord to achieve Investors in People Champion status. This announcement rounds off a fantastic year for Northern Counties in which we also achieved Best Companies accreditation and our customer service centre was named Best Small Call Centre at the European Call Centre awards.

“These awards are more than just trophies to put on a shelf. They are a very real and visible sign of our commitment to being a good employer and really making a difference to our staff and customers.

“We take the Champion status very seriously and will welcome opportunities to share what we have learned so far with other employers.”

Presenting the award, Simon Jones, Acting Chief Executive, Investors in People UK, said:

“In the last four years, our Champions have shared their expertise with employers across the UK, highlighting the business benefits of effective people development including increased employee motivation, higher retention rates and improved productivity. I am delighted to award another nine organisations Champion status – I’m sure they will bring huge benefits to the programme. Congratulations also to the 10 organisations who have retained their Champion status and have helped make the programme as successful as it is today.”

You can read the case study on the Investors in People Champions website.
