Northern Counties was officially named the Employer of Choice at the glittering Neighbourhood Awards ceremony in Birmingham on 21st September 2006.
The annual awards are organised by the National Housing Federation to recognise excellence in the housing sector. Northern Counties’ award was presented by Sky TV’s Eamonn Holmes at a gala dinner in front of over 500 guests, which formed the high point of this year’s NHF conference.
Lisa Burns, Director of Corporate Services said:
“We are absolutely thrilled to have won this award. To be recognised as the Employer of Choice in a sector where there is such stiff competition to recruit and retain the best people is something really special for Northern Counties.
“We believe that our people really do make a difference and credit goes to all our employees who make Northern Counties the successful organisation that it is. Winning this formal recognition in our 40th year is something we can all be very proud of. It’s been a tremendous team effort.”
The NHF receives literally hundreds of entries for the 10 categories each year. The two other short-listed entries in the Employer of Choice category were from the Richmond Housing Partnership and Great Places Housing Group (formerly Manchester Methodist Housing Association).
The judging panel, which was made up entirely of housing association residents, was particularly impressed by Northern Counties' People Strategy and the way the association works in partnership with staff to develop leading edge employment practices including its flexible working arrangements and career development opportunities.
