Hollinwood site will attract more businesses to the borough
Oldham Council's Regeneration department has announced a major investment in a prime site close to the M60 motorway in Hollinwood that will bring new jobs to the borough.
The site, set to be developed by Yorkshire-based CDP Ltd, will provide high quality office space, including the new headquarters for Northern Counties Housing Association.
As well as developing the three-acre site the council has also reserved some of the land for a park and ride facility for the Metrolink extension from Manchester to Oldham and Rochdale.
A planning application to build on the land has now been submitted for approval by Oldham Council.
Cllr Dave Hibbert, cabinet member for regeneration, said: "This is a major new investment at a prime strategic site in the borough and is evidence of attracting new businesses.
"Not only will the development at Hollinwood attract new jobs but it will also show that Oldham means business - serving to attract further investment to the borough.
"The regeneration department have worked very hard over the past five years to market the site. This new development will not only include high quality office space but also further improve communications of the town with the establishment of a Metrolink park and ride scheme which will benefit not just businesses but local residents and visitors to the borough."
Northern Counties Housing Association owns and manages more than 21,000 homes and, when the Hollinwood offices are built, the association intends to recruit 50 new staff alongside 140 brought in from their Manchester offices.
Ken irving, Northern Counties chief executive, said: "Northern Counties see a strong link between the service we give and the people who provide that service.
"From talking to local employers in the area and meeting their staff we felt that Oldham people have all the qualities of friendliness and enthusiasm we look for.
"After more than 35 years in Manchester it's a big step to relocate on this scale but we feel we have outgrown our current premises.
"We're feeling very positive about this move and the new era it represents for the association."
